I think we need to reevaluate our goals as a country and as a species. We have millions dying from hunger yet we"re saving a rodent (that no one really knows if it"s its own species or not!)???

I say we should save the mouse. Do you think that if that money is not spent on the mouse, that it will instead go to the hungry of which you speak? It will probably get dumped into social security or military funds or something else less important. Besides, if this mouse is a its own species, than it is especially important that it is protected because it's probably the fault of humans that the mice are dyng out anyway.

There is a point to which these "save every living thing" fools fail to acknowledge, or even give recognition too.. species die out, or evolve, it is one or the other as a general rule, that is nature doing what nature does.. get rid of the weak, stupid or incapable species, and replace it with something else.. there are no "holes" in nature, something will always move into the area that other species have failed with.. there is no place on this planet that is devoid of life in one form or another..

Let's face it.. there were NO STUPID cavemen.. for if they were in fact less intelligent, something smarter made him/her into a meal, thus ending the stupidity of that genetic line.. now we protect, feed, and clothe those that would have clearly been a meal for something smarter.. and it seems the more stupid the genetic line, the more prolifically they breed (once again nature making up for lack of brains with shear numbers)but, there are few threats to these "low intellect" as nothing preys upon them anymore, we make laws to pretect them from THEMSELVES, wanting to spend this kind of money on a mouse proves that not all the low IQ genetic lines had been consumed!..

I think the stupidity of spending this much money on a mouse is total and complete insanity.. if the "save everything" crowd wants its saved.. let them fund it.. otherwise I am with beckerist, feed people.. let the mouse starve... now that would be a change wouldn't it.

Species die out.. it's nature for them to do so.. if there are only a few, or a low number of some species type(s).. there is a REASON FOR IT.. most species have died out with out any help from mankind.. they did it all on their own.

The worst part of all of this.. how many of us would be surprised if they did lay out the money to do this?.. I wouldn't..

Whatever happened to natural selection? If we kill off another species, who says we weren't SUPPOSED to? Just because we have the resources to save a mouse, doesn't mean its wise to utilize these resources in this way. You're right, the money would PROBABLY go to the military or some stupid program like wel-(sit on your *** and do nothing while free money comes in)-fare, but let's face facts: we are spending an awful lot of money to save a pest, that we will probably turn around and kill in a decade anyway!

I say let the mouse die, if it can't adapt than it is its own biological fault...

I could be wrong but I don't think it's really the mice the that actually get the money at the end of the day. Nor are there likely to be mouse hospitals with 24 hour accident and emergency facilities. Most likely its just that the land where the mice happen to be is cheap because it's wet and boggy and full of mice and nobody really wanted it until now. It is probably always going to be cheaper to build on such land rather than buy land that is 'owned' and has at some stage been used for industrial purposes. Shares in one company will go down and shares in another company will go up. This isn't a military type decision .. it is just business.

Essentially this is just one small decision in the greater choice between a country with bogs and streams and jumping mice or whether you believe it is better to carry on until you have trashed the lot. Not my country so I haven't voted.

If someone doesn't have a very good life, instead of crying to big daddy government for free handouts why don't they do something about it, like get an education or free training or hands on experience? Because they don't have to to survive. The government will give them free money in the form of a 'social program' and expect them to do what with it? My eggs are in the 'trade the stamps for money to buy cigarettes and beer' basket, but hey, I only work directly with customers in a grocery store and watch this go down every day where I live.

Don't get me wrong, I know people struggle, but there are so many better ways than free money. It's called education, accountability and responsibility.

Let's continue this talk of mice and men...leave the highly irrelevant US domestic social policy out of it.
