I am calculating the torque required to rotate a drum of 8000lbs mounted on bearings at both ends. Can anybody provide some formulas.

Interesting problem. How fast do you want it to rotate? Is all the mass in the shell of the drum?
The real torque issue is when you load it with materials (its use) . The the torque really builds up.
