Sodium silicate in water makes a gel ("liquid glass"), but the pH is corrosive, around 12. Does anyone know if you can render the solution ~ neutral while still retaining the gel-like material property?
thanks

Look up solid catalysts, too. I have read that you can control the acidity of a porous solid by substituting another elemental species.

Thanks for the replies!
It's complex. Those links are talking about "silica gel" as in the stuff that comes in paper packets w optics. I mean real gel, like maybe the viscosity of shampoo. Need it to be neutral pH.
