Wrong again, oh mighty brain bludgeoned one.

Quote from article: "IBM has simulated a brain with 1 billion neurons and 10 trillion synapses--about the equivalent of a cat's cortex, or 4.5% of a human brain"

smile.gif

Did you not read the full article Geoff? The following is of some importance -, particularly the bit I have highlighted:

Even with that kind of hardware, IBM's brain-like computer is still years, if not decades, away from reality. Jim Olds, the director of George Mason University's Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study, points out that even limiting itself to a cat brain, IBM's simulation still only captures about 10% to 20% of the relevant information in the neurons it simulates. That could be a major hurdle, given that neuroscientists don't yet know which parts of the brain's physiology may turn out to be key to its function. "There are unknown unknowns," says Olds. "Things that aren't in the model might be crucial."

"In my opinion, no matter how intelligent we are, we cannot create a human-like intelligence. I remember 2 movies about this, bicentennial man and artificial intelligence. Or other related movies like terminator, matrix and the so many cloning stuffs."

I stated "IMO you're totally wrong, as we've already initiated steps towards this goal."

So what you're saying is; the IMB project article I linked has no relevance to first steps towards creating a future computer with Human intelligence.

Obviously you've suffered horrendous brain injury recently, exacerbating your previous former numbskull condition by a factor of 27.

Whoops - b.t.w that's my post above and it should be IBM not IMB.

The Forbin Project is a good movie on the subject.
In fact there are several.

I guess you are not a movie fan or you would have seen more.

1.We do not yet know enough about Mind/Brain/Intelligence/Consciousness to make a claim that we can build a human-like intelligence. It would be completely erroneous to presume that replicating all of the parts that constitute a human brain would result in an entity that would function in the same way as a human intelligence.

2. Why 27 ? wink.gif

1. Intelligence IMHO is a capacity to comprehend patterns and to use them in a holistic approach to create understanding - remember, I replied to someone who said "We cannot create a human-like intelligence" .... I beg to differ.

2. 27? ....... Some random number that I like. biggrin.gif

If we are to create a human-type intelligence, or indeed assess the likelihood of doing so, the first step would seem to be a coherent definition of what we mean by that term. The definition which you put forward, and on which you base your assertion, seems somewhat limited - perhaps somewhat weighted in favour of a rather mechanistic/computational concept of intelligence that may not include creative/artistic endeavour or more abstract thought processes.

It is offensive and ruinous, something to be avoided at all cost, for a nonbeliever to hear a Christian talking about these things as though with Christian writings as his source, and yet so nonsensically and with such obvious error that the nonbeliever can hardly keep from laughing.

Oops ... with regard to my post immediately above, allow me to apologize for not seeing your primary recognition of same. That being the case ... I second your most astute observation.

Amongst many things, you fail immeasurably at judging anyone else's intelligence. It's clear to any reader that (if nothing else) I'm quite capable of handling complex conversation. That alone dispels your petty immature suggestion otherwise.

So congratulations again on a series of interactions here where you expose your true nature. It's an interesting sort of self-hating philosophy but ultimately it may perhaps teach you something about yourself. We can all hope so.

Until that time I'd recommend you continue with your usual sycophant paradigm of following esteemed community members around and reinforcing their refutations with the same lack of aplomb as you've displayed here. No reason to give up on something that's been working for you for so long eh? I'd expect some subset of those respected folk probably enjoy having a little cheerleading biatch shoving her nose up their arse.
