i read in the paper today that theyre sending probes to the moon with the hopes of finding water and hydrogen in the ice to use as a feul source for a moon mining colony in hopes of starting a colony of sorts on the moon for further space study and travel.the hope to use the oxygen/hydrogen mixture as a alternative power source and fuel for ships retuning to earth and power supply for the colony.are we ready for this?

Technology wise, yup. We can handle it. But with a lack of trust in governments, the only way this would work if govs are forthright and honest about the purpose, and the long term goals. Also, does the moon get claimed by whoever gets there first, can we share, or will star wars be a in the near future after that.

my theory is this:yhe moon is neutral ground.not one country should own it,it belongs to the people of earth, all people not this government or that government and so forth, sure there might try to be corprate wars over who should have the right to monopolise the mining rights but in the long run i think the world goverments will realize that the moon belongs to the people and that they should have a say in what happens.

I hope that you are correct. I also wonder if certain organizations would allow the mining of the moon. Or colonization due to the fact that if something happens with the moon then the earth is in rough shape too. Humans have proven to have a serious lack of self control and very often get into trouble without even realizing it. In an ideal world we would do this and it would be awsome. In our world, it just gives us more to fight about, worry about and more possibilities for political fear mongering. In my opinion that is. And I am NO expert on this topic.

Mining on the Moon would raise enormous amounts of dust. They say that even the rocket engines firing on landing get dust to stay off the surface for as long as a year. Who knows, before long our Moon may have rings. It might be very attractive.
