phones are becoming so sophisticated that in a few years we will probably be able to go to the toilet on them! they have so much crammed into them and they are so small! they now have all this:
torch
colour screen
thermometer
heartbeat rate checker
camera
video camera
calculator
games
internet
email
and all sorts of other things.
its terrible, they will probably soon become inteligent and start making new ones that have guns and bombs they can send by email! and a army of small robotic phones will try to take over the human empire. we must stop them!
(or make them so they can have more cool features without the inteligence)

until a phone has enough computational power to execute hundreds of artifical intelligence algorithms at a time, as fast as a human brain can make a choice based on knowledge, i will disagree.

No. Phones will not take over the world. They will take over the personal entertainment business however, as soon as someone merges a PSP, PDA, Phone, and iPod into one compact unit.

Distributed Computing via phones... it'd be enough to tie up communication channels??

now we're talking about something more interesting. something like a SETI@Home but a SETI@mobile! rolleyes.gif

Cell phones should be hopping off each other anyway, to increase coverage, etc. Although this presents a few privacy/security issues for eavesdropping...

I think the real problem with phones is moving beyond them!

Wearable tech is the next stage of convergence. Phones hanging off our faces! smile.gif (I like the Idea)

Then proximity detectors, when your family and freinds can find you from your phone, then log into local Cameras to see you, if they don't log into your phonecam to see what you are seeing!

I actually look forward to triquarters, a natural evolution of the mobile phone!

To anyone who has read any distopean vision of the future, this stuff is scary, only our children can show us the way, and when there is the inevitable error, we will have to use all our abilities to find our collective way out!

Oh, the nurgling lord, I am fully with you! Till I can beat my Siemans phone in connect four at all levels of difficulty, I DON'T TRUST PHONES!

Seti@phone ?

You mean, a program that samples the signal over the bandwith of your antenna during idle time, that triangulates its location based upon different support antenna's with know locations, then sends its data to a central system thereby creating a Radiotelescope the size of the earth?

Yeah. Nowadays, it seems that man cannot leave his house without his cell phone. That's why every week, phone companies seem to release brand new models with additonal gadgets. Hmm.. I wonder what gadget they'll put in next?
