Being that I have stayed in the wilderness for the summer, I have been paying a great deal of attention to the habits of the various little critters. It has been amazing to watch the chipmunks, and rabbits, and squirrels, and to watch the various birds come and go throughout the summer.

In particular, I have enjoyed picking apples of late, and it got me to thinking about the old falling apple gravity thing. We know that we live in a quantum world, and I was imagining that the falling apples would broadcast very subtle gravitational waves of a specific frequency.

Having watched the activity of the animals, I was wondering how the heck they always seem to come along when the fruit is ripe for the picking. Could it be that the animals are naturally called to the locations when certain atomic structures, which are tuned into such gravitational forces, trigger a certain quantum event?

As people filled up with thoughts, and words, we may not be so receptive to such forces, but maybe the animals are all enjoying being ONE with nature? Moreover, perhaps some of our great works are unleashing gravitational waves which trigger our desire to eat.

Hears a plane fly over and goes to look in the fridge....

Hi templeghost -

There are three (Well, four, counting your idea) possibilities explaining why animals are attracted to trees when the fruit is ripe:

1. Evolution alone has caused these little critters to be attracted to trees at the time of year when the fruit is "ripe for the picking". Let's say one of them has a random genetic mutation which causes them to be attracted to trees at the time of year when fruit is ripe. This one will get all the good food first, before anyone else does. It will then survive longer, because it will be healthier than those who did not get as much food. So, when mating season comes around, it will still be alive to pass its genes to its descendants, who will then also be around when the fruit gets ripe.

2. Smell and evolution are the causes for this - when the fruit gets ripe, it begins to emit special chemicals, which can be detected by animals. Now, if one little critter has a mutation which causes it to be attracted to the smell, it will get all the food, and will still be around to mate, and can therefore pass on it's genes, etc. etc.

3. Another property of ripe fruit, such as color, attracts animals to trees when their fruit is ripe, as animals have evolved to be attracted to this property.

Your idea is, I suppose, possible, but quite unlikely compared to these two other possibilities. But you never know... It's always possible that they have evolved to sense these waves and be attracted to them.

Hope my answer helped.

P.S. Oh! Wait! There are three more possibilities:

4. Some creatures have mutated to have super powers, so they will always sense when the fruit is ripe.

5. Some have a natural advantage to getting the fruit, and go to get it as early as possible to minimize casualties (They are gentle creatures; they will kill for food, but they will kill as little as possible).

6. They use the force to know when the fruit is ripe.

you need exorcism like all other "atheists" "

Since I am, of course, an athiest, Satan has a habit of controlling my actions quite a lot now a days. So don't blame me for whatever I say or do, okay? Because if you do, you're saying that Satan isn't controlling me, which means that you're denying religion, which means that you're EVIL.

I agree with all these points, but I especially enjoyed the super powers laugh.gif

I was just sitting down for a lunch time cup of tea, and reading the news on google, and I noticed they just found out that many birds have magnetic sensing molecules in the eye.

The cryptochromes allow migratory birds to perceive magnetic fields as a visual pattern, not just sense and follow them instinctively.

Now, that is a super power I wouldn't mind having. If I could see the electrosmog of the city, I bet I would never go back.
