As much as we all dislike Micro$oft, I have to ask. Is the EU commission going to start telling pharmaceutical companies to "share their research" with their competitors? Are they going to start telling AMD to give Intel their latest chip designs? Are they going to tell Boeing to give Airbus all their aeronautics research? Are they going to make Google share its search code with Microsoft and Yahoo? How is this any different than what they are doing with Microsoft? I don"t like Microsoft, but frankly they OWN windows. They are allowed to share that code with anyone they want, or to withhold it from anyone they want. If customers don"t like the things Microsoft does, they can just change their OS. It really isn"t that hard. Microsoft is obviously guilty of monopolistic activities, but forcing *any* company to divulge its research to its competitors will be the death of private research. These companies make money by doing research, and creating new products. If you take that away from them there is nothing left. This post has been edited by gopher65 on Sep 16 2007, 04:41 PM |
