The point of captchas is to determine if someone reading the image can match the text version of the image. Without the text version already known, it doesn"t make sense to use it as a validation tool. And if the text version is already known, why are you asking again for the online library? This doesn"t make any sense. Either the captchas will become useless (if there isn"t a "right answer") or we"d be typing in text that"s already known--gaining nothing.

I haven't gone and read another article about this yet (soon:)), but based on the physorg article, I'd say they send out the same little blurp to a lot of people all at the same time. People type in what they see, and the server compares what they all typed in. The majority answer wins and is confirmed.

That's my guess anyway. I'd do it that way:).
