Another classic example of management interfering with objectivity and fairness due to a conflict of interest. Did we expect the mine"s executive to declare on national news that they made a mistake and subjected mine workers to dangerous conditions?
This same thing happened at NASA with both the Challenger (incomplete O-ring seals on rocket booster due to colder launch temp) and Columbia (punctured wing from foam debri) shuttles - lower rung engineers express concern over vital safety issues, and management puts them on mute and decides to take the risk. Both could have been avoided so easily, with just a little patience!
Better safe than sorry.
